Kayaking on the Bayou

Dear Readers,

I live in a very big city.  And it's ever growing, with many construction sites everywhere I look.  This adds to the pollution, noise and car traffic.  But despite these negative points, I think life here can still be good because there are many parks and rivers throughout the city.

When I first moved here, I was very homesick and sad to see so much concrete around me.  I missed my hometown where there were hills and lakes covered with snow in winter and forests full of orange leaves in autumn.

But I became used to the convenience a big city has to offer: the incredible amount of shops, the number of parks and activity centers, and the bayou. I never heard of a bayou before moving here.  Bayou is essentially "a Franco-English term for a body of water typically found in flat, low-lying area, and can refer either to an extremely slow-moving stream or river (often with a poorly defined shoreline), or to a marshy lake or wetland."

The Bayou goes on for miles and miles and it is a great place for going kayaking because the flow is not too strong.

Here is one of the canoe/kayak drop down spot on the bayou.

It looks very steep but there are stairs leading all the way down.

The stream is very slow before it reaches the rocks.

After it rains, the water level rises up.  It's very low right now.

I look forward to autumn when the weather will be cooler and our trips on the bayou could last longer and become more enjoyable.  Have a great weekend everybody and enjoy the outdoors if you can!

    1. He did but he also whined a lot because it was such a strenuous activity. Both boys were quite tired.

  4. Beautiful pictures, it looks like a very peaceful place. Kayaking is so much fun, but also exhausting :). But it's wonderful, that you're having such a place! And I'm sure it'll be even better, when it's autumn.

    1. There are nicer lakes and the sea if I drive further away but this is good enough for a quick drive!

  7. Thanks for sharing the wonderful photos. They remind me of Oregon. I lived in Oregon for couple years when I was in college. There are many woods and rivers to explore, we went hiking and boating all the time.

I never tried kayaking, it looks so fun!!

    1. Lucky you for being in Oregon! I heard it is such a beautiful place! Kayaking is easy and many kayaks are sold for cheap at Academy stores. They are good quality and quick to dry so it's ideal!

  9. Beautiful photos! Kayaking is a blast!! It looks absolutely gorgeous where you are! I've always gone while on vacation at my families beach house, but last time I got swept away and ended up stranded, it was terrifying. o_0
