Cherry Jam and CinnaPup

Dear Readers,

Here is the new Cherry Jam doll from Bridge Direct.  A cute dog named CinnaPup is included in the package as well as a purple comb.  But cute as it may be, the puppy does not stand up very well on its own.  It kept falling down as I tried to take photos.

I couldn't help but compare the new version with the older one from Hasbro.  Their hair color is almost the same purple shade and they wear the same dress except for the flower which is only printed on the Bridge Direct dress while it's a button for the Hasbro doll. Their shoes are almost the same as well except there is a flower printed on the new doll.

Can you see how the new doll has more defined hands?

The new Cherry Jam comes with a headband.  She also has much bigger eyes and her face is painted with bolder colors than the Hasbro doll.

They can wear each other's shoes and dress without any problem. I swapped their outfits to show you.

Here they are without their clothes.   The Hasbro doll is a tiny teensy thinner than the Bridge Direct doll.

From behind as well!

There is really nothing much that sets them apart except for their face.  I did notice however that the hair of the older version is better than the newer version.  The Bridge Direct doll's hair falls out in clumps when I brush it.  The Hasbro doll has smoother hair and it has never fallen down in clumps like this!  Also, the bangs of the Bridge Direct doll is covered with some sort of glue that makes it stiff.

I must admit it is one of the reason why I prefer the Hasbro doll over the Bridge Direct doll.  But maybe I am just not quick to embrace change.

Which doll do you prefer?

  2. Another sweet review. It is difficult to choose, as I like the Bridge Direct doll's defined hands and her shoes are prettier too. But the Hasbro doll's face is cuter, I prefer the little charm on the dress to the print on the Bridge Direct doll's dress and I think the hair might be the last deciding factor. However, I wouldn't mind either.Did you mention a price difference? Sorry if I missed it.

    1. I don't remember the price but I think it was the same as the previous version $9.99 which is very good. Especially if you get a pet too. But the old version is getting rare now because it is no longer produced so the price for that doll will go up.

  3. I have to say, these Strawberry Shortcake dolls are seriously cute :D I love the little pet, and Cherry Jam's gorgeous puppy :) Great review. I wonder if the thicker body is in aid of trying to make girl's attitudes about their bodies healthier... They are both adorable but I think my favourite just has to be the Hasbro doll - her hair looks better and her face is less bright, though I think the newer clothes are cuter XD

    1. The Hasbro doll wins hands down when it comes to the hair. I don't know the reason for the thicker body to be honest. Maybe one day Bridge Direct will explain their decisions concerning the changes.

  4. I just can't decide which one I prefer.. They are both very cute! I do like the dog too, too bad it has a hard time standing by it self, my daughter would be very angry with that =) She always try to set dolls and figures in a certain position, and if they don't hold it she gets a bit mad =)
Thank you for showing both dolls like this, great to see the differences!

    1. Oh my daughter is the same. She gets frustrated with toys if they don't do as she wants them to be.

  5. Hmh... I can't really decide the better one, but because I like soft hair, I might prefer the first version :D But the new version has a cute look, I like the eyes :)

  7. Nice review, Jane Cherie! I like that the new one looks more like a little girl, and both her head and eyes look a little bigger and more round, making her appear more kawaii. :-) But I much prefer the clothes and hair of the original doll. The pet for the new doll is cute too! Oh, decisions, decisions! I just picked up the Hasbro Lemon Meringue for 99 cents at a thrift store. She's missing her shoes but otherwise super cute! Glad to hear that they're getting more difficult to find! I think I got myself a deal! :-) xo Jennifer

    1. That is a great deal Jennifer!!! The older version of Lemon Meringue is quite rare.

  8. Great review, I definitely like the first one better, she has a more soft and subtle look to her. It is very sweet, the other one is nice to but her features are a bit too over exaggerated for my taste. However, I do think the newer girl's hair looks a bit better. :)))

    1. I will try to fix her hair in some hot water!!! Maybe that way the glue will go away and it will be more easy to brush them!

  9. If I didn't know about the hair quality I would say that I prefer new doll's hairstyle. But quality is more important to me. And I agree with Paige that the first doll has a more natural look. The new doll looks younger and happier. So girls at young age may like the new version more.
